Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer

Certified Dog Behavior Consultant

Like many dog trainers, my love for dogs started early and grew exponentially with time. As my love for dogs grew, so did my fascination with their behavior and the complexity of their species’ relationship with our own. After more than a decade of studying dog behavior, I have found my passion in helping dogs with separation-related behavior problems conquer their anxiety and learn to relax while home alone. I currently share my life with two rescue dogs, one of whom came to me with separation anxiety (that’s her above!) I have the education and skills to guide your home alone training journey, and the lived experience to understand what a journey it is!

My Training Philosophy

  • Ethical dog training begins with health and wellness. Pain and illness can cause behavior problems which can be mistaken for separation anxiety, fear of strangers, and body handling sensitivities. Our work together must begin by addressing or ruling out health problems, pain, and unmet needs.

  • Ethical dog training sets the dog up for success by controlling environmental factors that contribute to unwanted behavior. Ethical dog training includes avoidance of triggers that the dog has not been prepared to handle. Our work together must include avoidance of scary or stressful stimuli until we have prepared your dog to handle them.

  • Ethical dog training uses the behavior change strategy that causes the least stress for the learner and allows them as much choice and control as can be safely provided. Our work together must not rely on punishment to suppress unwanted behaviors, but rather on building desirable behavior through reinforcement (rewards).
